This entire jungle was something that Ma'at was not familiar with. Everything was overgrown beyond belief, it was wet and sticky in some places, and there was too many noises for her liking. She preferred the open savannah with its dry ground and quiet noises any day compared to this place. But it seemed relatively safe... As far as she could tell. Maybe this place would be the spot to settle down in.
Of course, the lioness wasn't going to be anything but careful with this unknown place. At least when she got back to her whole scouting out a new home for her family. For now, she was content where she was. Ma'at was just lazing around on a thick tree branch, and on the dryest one she could find out of so many trees that still held water from the now passing storm. It was a good place to rest, and high enough to keep an eye on anything that past by without knowing, or just pretended to not know.
It was then that Ma'at heard rustling in the thick underbrush below her, but she wasn't concerned. It was most likely just some small antelope passing by. If it wasn't though, she would be ready.

The jungle was cloaked in mysterious obscurity and ready to betray anyone unprepared for the hardships that lurked. It wasn’t like the jungle in which cradled Simba in its vines, no this jungle was almost always swathed in shadows and dangerous creatures stalked high and low. Nonnatives could easily find their death at the hands of a gorilla or the jaws of a leopard for they knew the trees and darkness like the back of their paws.
Twin felines balanced precariously higher within the foreboding canopies, gleaming eyes like chips of malachite narrowed downward with sinister light. They were natives, born there from a clan of leopards but unfortunately cast aside for their abnormal pelts, they still stalked the jungle and often spied of unaware guests. Synchronized shadows they were, moving in unison with each stroke, breath, and thought for they were always with one another. Nuru and Sheeta, twin ebony leopards of immense size for the leopards of this jungle grew larger than normal to combat the beasts that could rend branches from trees. Nuru and Sheeta had trained their sights upon an intruder obviously misplaced in the lair of inky darkness. To them, she was blood atop a pallid surface, so easily discernable that it was almost comical.
The lioness clad in bronze seemed to awkwardly hobble through the dense foliage before they witnessed her bizarre act of climbing. Lions don’t often climb, they were slow and weird but the twins had just witnessed her attempt at such a thing. It was wise, remaining at the bottom of the cage of trees could make you’re a target but she was a target nonetheless to them. No sound uttered from the lounging beasts, they observed her with serene interest for some time before a rustling far lower gathered their attention briefly. It was an aardvark snuffling within the dirt for morsels, the twins of obsidian weren’t interested in such a creature when a lion was invading their land but they kept a peaceful tone about them.
“Are you lost, little lioness?” resounded two voices mingling into one, the sound haunting and almost ghostly. They remained gripped in darkness but she could probably see them a little above her. “We don’t see many lions entering this jungle,” twining voices were filled with mirth; they were teasing her but their words held truth. Lions that knew of this place purposely avoided it; therefore this one had to be new. Ears angled subtly toward the sound of a frightened animal dashing, the aardvark must have finally noticed them speaking and fled. Sheeta placed a beneath her slender chin and leaned forward to loom a bit in the direction of this stranger while Nuru wore a grin.

Ma'at didn't pay the aardvark any attention as it shuffled too and fro through the dirt below her, but the sudden voice (voices?) of some other creature talking caught her off-guard. The bronze lioness's head instantly shot up and stared wide-eyed as she tried to pin-point just where the voice came from. The thick jungle underbrush had to have been hiding whoever it was in the darkness that it cast, because she had NO idea where whoever was speaking was hiding. Ma'at growled lowly, before she spoke.
"I wasn't aware that some other creature made this part of this thick jungle their territory." She growled in response to Nuru and Sheeta. "So no, I'm not lost. I'll gladly leave, if you let me, otherwise, stay the hell out of my way. Or are you too much of a coward to fight me?"
Big words for a big lioness, sure, but Ma'at meant every word. She got up from her temporary perch and slowly clawed her way back down the rough tree park and back onto the wet, soggy ground below. The aardvark that was there before had wisely decided to turn tail and get out of the way long before she got down there, so it was all between her and the ones speaking now.
The onshore monsoon winds from the Indian Ocean, and altitude. The winds determine the onset of Kenya’s two rainy seasons, with the hot northeast monsoon or kaskazi blowing dry air in from the Persian Gulf.
The heaviest rains are later in April, May and June but there will be showers and the air will be humid. Animals will not have to work as hard to find lush grasses and plantlife!
