(November 5th, late afternoon. Closed to Kion. This... is very late for a thread I promised to start "tomorrow" over a week ago. Really sorry for the delay.)
"Ugh."
Emerging from the cave of Pride Rock, Kiara shook her head vigorously, stretched out her paws to rid them of the cramp that came from sitting in the same place for far too long. Royal lessons were, of course, an important part of learning to be future queen, and anyone could tell her that; but that did not mean that Kiara always enjoyed them. Sometimes, certainly, she felt like she gained something from them, grew more into herself, and enjoyed the time spent with Mom, Dad, Grandma Sarabi or any of her other teachers.
And sometimes, in contrast, after listening to Zazu extrapolate on the many customs and traditions that a future queen would be expected to honour and take part in? She felt about ready to scream.
It was important to know, of course. And the majordomo was definitely interesting to listen to, now that she was a bit older and more mature. But even so, there was just so much to take in that pretty soon it all blurred together into one large mass of information that she couldn't quite place any single part of. Sometime, Kiara was sure, they'd have to go through all this again; hopefully a way into the future, once it became more imminently relevant to her.
For now, though, the lesson was done, and Kiara was glad of that. She wasted no time in descending Pride Rock; reaching the ground and feeling the grass under her paws again felt pretty good after too long cooped up inside, there was no denying that fact, and the princess allowed herself a few minutes, while no-one was expecting her to be all dignified and everything, to flop down in the grass at the foot of the Rock and roll over onto her back. Sometimes it was nice to just be herself, forgetting about all the royal duties and expectations and destiny waiting for her and just... pretend she was that carefree cub again.
Movement in the grass was enough to alert Kiara to someone's approach. While she wouldn't have cared if someone had found her like that, the young royal nonetheless took the opportunity to get back to her paws, hopping up atop a nearby boulder to see who was coming. To no great surprise, it was Kion; her brother's shock of red mane stood out from a mile away, honestly.
"Hey, Kion. How go things with the guard?"
For now, she was keeping her favourite baby brother crack to herself. It would only be a matter of time, however, before she brought it out to tease the unfortunate Kion.
Wasn't that, after all, just what big sisters did?
