The Outer Prides are trying their best to betroth their cubs to Kiara. Hyena clans are infuriated with their lot in life and search for revenge! Where do you side?
((November 2nd, set in the late morning, early afternoon. A slight chance of rain. Open to all!))
"Hevi Kabisa..." Kion breathed out in amazement as he stared at the watering hole. He had NEVER seen it swell to such a degree as far as he could remember. The waters were stretched far beyond what it currently would have been at this time of year, but he supposed that was because of the heavy rains that were coming in due to the wet season. Any water-going animal would probably be fine, but Kion hoped that the waters wouldn't cause any major flooding.
"I hope that these storms don't get too bad, because the last thing anyone needs is to deal with a flood." Kion mused to himself as he stared at the water's edge. Kion then heard the steps of someone else approaching him, but they didn't seem like a threat. Kion just smiled and turned his ear back before going to face whoever it was.
"Hey, I see you're just as amazed as I am about the watering hole?" He asked, as he turned around to face the newcomer.
Fuli had seen a lot of things in her lifetime, and that included the rise in water levels. She couldn't remember ever seeing the watering hole quite this full before. Small paws carried the Fastest forward to meet Kion, and she moved to sit on the driest patch of grass near him she could find. If there was one thing Fuli hated, it was getting wet. The last thing she wanted right then was to unexpectedly get drenched by something as simple as being near the watering hole. Her ears flicked, and green eyes shifted back to the water. She wouldn't lie; she was worried.
"I don't know about you, Kion, but the water's getting too high for my liking," she said. That may have been a good thing. It meant that there would be more water and less fighting between animals when it came to drinking needs. But for some, like her, it was going to cause issues. What if the water got so high that it led to dens getting filled up? Or worse...
"I knew the rainy season got heavy, but I didn't think I'd ever see the watering hole like this," she admitted. Kion didn't seem too bothered by it, though. That just was how he was. If he saw a problem, he'd say something. She knew him well enough by then.
Crouched nearby, concealed within the tall grass by the edge of the watering hole, Kituko overheard everything that passed between the two young felines. While he had no more of a desire to see a flood than they did, he was far less concerned about the possibility. If the floodwaters got to be too deep for him, he would simply relocate.
"I imagine the crocodiles wouldn't complain if there was a flood," he ventured, rising high enough to barely peek over the grass, across the water a ways from where the two felines were. They might both be young, but they were already his rivals in size, and likely his superiors in weight. He wasn't keen on getting any closer than he already was, just in case they weren't friendly.
"Can't say I've ever heard of a lion caring much about other creatures, not that I'm an expert on your kind," he mused, ears raising to swivel about a bit as he glanced between the two. Then they folded back a bit as he sank into the grass, and out of sight, slipping silently through the thick plant-life, both to avoid staying in one place to long around two strange predators, and just because he felt like messing with them a bit.
"I know." Kion replied to Fuli as she had neared him. He had to admit, he was a bit happy to see Fuli. She was one of his friends, after all, and a member of his Lion Guard! He also knew too well also that water wasn't exactly a favorite thing of the cheetah's, so her concerns about the rising watering hole were valid to him, though Kion wasn't too worried. "But I think we'll be okay, at least until the really heavy rains come."
But Kion noticed someone else had spoken up. His ears swiveled intensely as he looked around, trying to pin-point the voice. It wasn't a familiar voice, as he knew almost everyone in the pridelands! Well, maybe not everyone, but knew other animals enough to pinpoint who they were just from their voice alone in a lot of cases. Now he was curious.
"Uh, hello?" He called out, still looking around to see just who had spoken up. "We won't hurt you, if that's what you're worried about."
The onshore monsoon winds from the Indian Ocean, and altitude. The winds determine the onset of Kenya’s two rainy seasons, with the hot northeast monsoon or kaskazi blowing dry air in from the Persian Gulf.
The heaviest rains are later in April, May and June but there will be showers and the air will be humid. Animals will not have to work as hard to find lush grasses and plantlife!
