History
Katwa wasn't originally the Matriarch of Jasiri's clan, nor was she always a 'good' hyena. The spotted hyena was originally part of Shenzi's clan, who by the time that Scar was king, was well-known to be under the scarred king's control. Which was ironic as the spotted hyena wasn't a fan of Scar in the first place, or lions for that matter. But he promised to give them all a better life out of their desolate home that was the outlands, and he delivered, so Katwa kept her mouth shut.
But then the lands went to crap, things got hard for both hyena and lion (it didn't help that the hyenas definitely caused the circle of life to be thrown for a loop in overhunting, among other things), and Scar went back on a lot of his promises. This angered Katwa greatly. It was definitely obvious at that point that Scar cared only for himself and had used them all. The hyena then let her mouth loose about how little she thought of Scar, though she was punished for it.
Then Simba returned and they were all back to where they started in the outlands. Katwa afterwards left what remained of Shenzi's clan, she didn't care. She had no family left alive in the clan and didn't respect Shenzi anymore. Katwa and a few other hyenas started their own small clan that would follow the circle of life, and two litters followed suit. First was Madoa and Jasiri, then Wuma and Tunu.
Katwa wasn't happy at all that Jasiri made friends with a lion, and the son of the Pridelands King no less! But seeing how the friendship seemed to benefit them when Kion and his Lion Guard kicked Zira's pride out of their watering hole, Katwa kept herself reserved about the whole thing. But when word of trouble stirring in the Pridelands came to her ears, the matriarch knew that things would have to change and possibly break the ties that Jasiri had forged if they were to survive.

"All right, all right! Break it up before I do the same to you!" Katwa snarled aggressively at two hyenas who had been fighting over some small and rather miserable scraps of food. It was pretty much kill or be killed out here in the Outlands, but like hell she was going to allow her clan members to kill each other over little scraps! They knew better then that. She snarled again at the two other hyenas who now had their ears back and crouching close to the ground in fear.
"You idiots know better then to fight over a bunch of scraps! We're not like the other Hyena clans who care nothing about the Circle of Life, and we will not be like them and kill each other over food. If you want to eat, then go and help my daughter hunt some game! Unless you'd rather be punished again like last time." Katwa stood there with a stone-cold face, as the two hyenas then ran off in the direction that Jasiri had gone earlier. The Matriarch just chuckled and smiled.
"That's what I thought."
