History
Firstborn son of Diogenes and Hestia, Zeus knew from an early age that one day he would rule as king over Pride De Falsis Deis. To that end, he was tutored by his father from a young age on what was expected of him, and in the pride's proud traditions. While as a cub he silently chafed at the constant lessons his father insisted he undertake, as he matured, he found himself spending more and more time learning everything he could from Diogenes, taking all the lessons to heart, while also learning everything he could from his mother, Hestia.
For a time, he was wary of his brother Baldr's keen intellect. While he was far from lacking in brains, he knew he was not his brother's equal when it came to intellect. But, as time passed, and he realized Baldr truly had no desire to rule, he began to appreciate his brother's intellect, and value his advice. Xerxes, on the other hand, had a tendency to say and do things that sparked his volatile temper. But, angry as he sometimes gets with his brother, he has come to understand that Xerxes, for all his popularity, is an unambitious layabout.
Now, as his father grows ever older, and ever more paranoid, Zeus has begun to suspect it may not be long before it will be his time to take up the crown of Pride De Falsis Deis. Already he had been tasked with a few royal duties expected of a king, but he was careful not to reach beyond what authority Diogenes had given him. Not only would it be disrespectful, except perhaps if dire need required it, he had no desire to do anything that might make his father think he was seeking an early kingship. But, just as he knew he would be king one day, so too did he know he would need a queen, and an heir.

(Reusing this.^^) The faint sound of teeth grinding warred with the low snarl rumbling in the lion prince's chest for which would be more easily heard. For as much as he understood why his father sent him out to deal with the occasional dispute, and for as much as he truly appreciated both the trust placed in him and the chance to both prove himself and gain valuable experience, some of the disputes that arose threatened to send him into a rage. Were it not for the iron grip he kept on his emotions (most of the time) he was certain he'd have blood on his claws and fangs. That, and his brother Baldr.
He glanced at the younger prince at his side, but said nothing. More and more, he was coming to appreciate his brother's virtues. Zeus was enough of a realist to know he'd be forced to make some tough decisions during his reign, so his brother's disregard for fighting fairly or showing caution were no cause for dismay for him. If anything, it made Baldr all the more valuable. But one thing he disagreed was his brother's assertion that there was no such thing as a bad win. There clearly was. A bad win was a win that left them unable to keep on winning. One day, he'd have to make certain his brother understood that.
"Salvete!"
And then there was Xerxes. Zeus' jaws clenched tight as he, just barely, kept a snarl off his face. He shared his father's disdain for the amethyst-eyed prince, if for somewhat different reasons. He stared grimly at the younger of his brothers, before offering a begrudging "Salve," in return to Xerxes' cheerful greeting. Then to his chagrin, the dark-maned lion started talking about some lioness who'd caught his eye. Who is was, he didn't know. He simply did his best to tone his brother's words out as Xerxes fell in beside them. But, as they approached the royal den, Zeus felt his will begin to fail before his rising temper, and without warning, he lashed out with the back of his paw, catching Xerxes up side the head, abruptly shutting him up.
The dull thump carried through the air, accompanied by a quiet chuckle as a smirk crossed Zeus' face. The look on Xerxes' face when his paw had connected was one that would stay with the eldest prince for a long time to come.
